TPC River Highlands
History
TPC River Highlights traces its origins to 1928 when it opened as Middletown Golf Club, later renamed Edgewood Country Club in 1934. The PGA Tour purchased the property in the early 1980s and Pete Dye redesigned it to TPC standards, reopening as 'TPC of Connecticut' in 1984 as the host of what is now the Travelers Championship — then called the Greater Hartford Open, one of the PGA Tour's longest-running events. Bobby Weed performed further remodeling in 1989 in consultation with tour professionals Howard Twitty and Roger Maltbie, resulting in the current iteration. Situated on a bluff overlooking the Connecticut River just south of Hartford, the par-70 layout at 6,852 yards is considered one of the shorter and more birdie-friendly stops on the PGA Tour, routinely producing low scores and exciting finishes. The course features Bent Grass fairways and greens, narrow tree-lined corridors, and several strategic water holes.
