Chambers Bay Golf Course
History
Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s 2007 design on a former gravel quarry above Puget Sound, is one of the most dramatically sited public golf courses in America. Built on mining land reclaimed into a sweeping links landscape, the course features immense elevation changes, sandy waste areas, and relentless ocean winds off Puget Sound. It hosted the 2015 U.S. Open — won by Jordan Spieth in a dramatic final-round battle — though its controversial fescue greens drew criticism. As a public access links alternative in the Pacific Northwest, it remains one of the most unique championship experiences available to everyday golfers.
