Kapalua Plantation Course
History
The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Maui, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and opened in 1991, was among the first courses to demonstrate that wide, ground-game-oriented minimalist design could work in a resort setting. Perched high above the Pacific Ocean on Maui's northwest tip, the course's 18 holes play through former pineapple fields with sweeping panoramas of the ocean and neighboring Molokai island. The persistent trade winds make club selection challenging and the downhill finishing stretch particularly thrilling. It hosts the PGA Tour's season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions each January.
