History
Scioto Country Club in Columbus, one of Donald Ross's finest parkland designs, is inextricably linked to Jack Nicklaus, who grew up playing the course as a junior and used it as his proving ground. Ross completed the course in 1916 on rolling terrain along the Scioto River, creating a challenging layout of tree-lined fairways and his trademark contoured greens. Bobby Jones won the 1926 U.S. Open here, and Jack Nicklaus won his first USGA title — the 1959 U.S. Amateur — on his home course. Scioto's role in shaping the Golden Bear is its greatest distinction.
