Augusta National Golf Club
History
Augusta National was conceived by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts on a former indigo plantation in Georgia and designed with Alister MacKenzie to replicate the strategic beauty of the Old Course at St Andrews. Opening in 1933, it became the permanent home of the Masters Tournament. MacKenzie's flowing fairways, bold contours, and deceptively swift Bermuda greens reward creativity and punish timidity. Amen Corner — holes 11 through 13 — represents perhaps the most dramatic three-hole stretch in championship golf. The course is continually refined under strict secrecy, with yardage additions to keep pace with modern equipment and maintain its legendary challenge.
