History
Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Alister MacKenzie's 1929 California home course, was the course he built adjacent to his own residence and most closely reflects his personal philosophy. MacKenzie used dramatic ravines and barrancas of the Santa Cruz mountains to create a course of spectacular visual beauty and strategic challenge. MacKenzie himself called it the finest course of his creation. A 2013 restoration by Tom Doak returned the greens to their original bold contours, recovering MacKenzie's vision from decades of softening modifications. It is one of the few top-ranked courses accessible to non-members.
Signature Hole
16th hole, par 3, 173 yards — a dramatic downhill par-3 over a deep barranca to one of MacKenzie's most boldly contoured greens
