History

TPC Tampa Bay was built by the PGA Tour and designed by Bobby Weed with PGA Tour fan-favorite Chi Chi Rodríguez as consultant, opening in 1991 in Lutz, Florida, near the intersection of I-75 and Veterans Expressway north of Tampa. Weed created a par-71, 6,898-yard stadium-style course routed around natural wetlands, cypress heads, and mature Florida landscaping — earning a 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest and recognition as one of the top five golf courses in Florida by Florida Golf Magazine. The course was designed to challenge touring professionals from the championship tees while providing an enjoyable and accessible experience for recreational players across multiple tee options ranging down to 5,036 yards. TPC Tampa Bay has hosted the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am on the PGA Tour Champions and remains one of the most acclaimed resort-style golf facilities in the Tampa Bay region. The course changed ownership to Heritage Golf Group while retaining TPC branding.
