History

Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club, Tom Doak's 2006 minimalist masterpiece on the high plains of northeastern Colorado, rivals Sand Hills as the purest expression of naturalistic design in post-war American golf. The course occupies a remote site among the dramatic dry canyons and sandhills of the Great Plains, with Doak finding naturally perfect fairways and green sites in the tumbling terrain. Ballyneal entered the rankings at high positions almost immediately after opening and has remained a touchstone of the minimalist movement as a course that defines what great modern design can achieve.
