The Lido at Sand Valley
History
The Lido at Sand Valley, opened in 2023 as a recreation of C.B. Macdonald's original Lido Club — destroyed in 1942 — represents one of the most ambitious course design projects of the 21st century. Tom Doak and Brian Schneider used Macdonald's original plans, hole sketches, and historical photographs to reconstruct the legendary course on the sandy Wisconsin landscape of Sand Valley Resort. The original Lido, built on dredged Long Island land in 1917, was widely considered the greatest course in America in its time. The recreation captures Macdonald's bold strategic vision and has been celebrated as an instant classic.
