History

Pinehurst No. 2 is the spiritual home of American golf, Donald Ross's masterwork and the only course to have hosted consecutive U.S. Opens in 2014 and again in 2024. Ross refined the layout from 1907 until his death in 1948, perfecting the turtleback-crowned greens that shed mishit approaches into gnarly native rough. A 2010 restoration by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw returned natural sandy waste areas reminiscent of the course's original character. The 2014 Opens produced two gripping finishes — Martin Kaymer's dominant win and Michelle Wie's emotional women's triumph — cementing No. 2's legendary status.

Signature Hole

18th hole, par 4, 445 yards — a demanding uphill approach to a turtleback green that repels all but perfectly struck shots
